SSbD Consulting Europe SL
SSbD Consulting Europe (SSbD-CE) is a Spain-based consultancy dedicated to embedding Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) principles into innovation processes across the chemical and materials industry, with a particular focus on supporting innovative SMEs. SSbD-CE works with companies and value chains to translate the EU SSbD framework — including its revised Recommendation, adopted by the European Commission in March 2026 following a two-year testing period — into practical, operational decision-making tools for safer and more sustainable product and process innovation.
SSbD-CE was a core partner of the IRISS project, which evolved into the IRISS International SSbD Community, a growing network connecting industry, researchers, and policymakers to accelerate SSbD adoption through shared guidelines, an Industry Hub for peer exchange, and support for building project consortia. Building on this experience,
SSbD-CE coordinates the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action iLCA4SSbD (Grant Agreement No. 101293799), a 48-month, 19-partner consortium across 10 European countries integrating Life Cycle Assessment methodologies into the SSbD framework through a three-tiered iLCA approach (Simplified, Intermediate, Full), AI-driven scoping and gap-filling tools, and five industrial case studies spanning battery recycling, bio-based ethanol, surfactants, smart textiles, and aerospace composites.
Anne Chloé Devic serves as the Project Coordinator, with joint SSbD-CE project manager Alexander Bjoerling and the joint project coordination team RIVM, EMERGE, and TEMASOL.
